St. Charles Jaycees History
The St. Charles Jaycees trace their origins to 1948 when 29
young men banded together to form the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Collectively
representing a vibrant community spirit, the group eagerly set goals and worked
hard to accomplish them. In a year they were chartered, and in two they had
purchased their "mascot". a 1921 LaFrance fire engine from the city for one
dollar. Today there is a fictitious chapter set up to help preserve the
fire truck They are called the LaFrance Blazers.
Today, although much has changed since the early days of the St. Charles
Jaycees, the organization's accomplishments can be seen throughout the St.
Charles landscape.
The Jaycees Park, located on Elm Street, proudly recognizes the improvements of
former Jaycees. The Jaycee Fairgrounds Village, opened in 1983, and the Jaycee
Terrace, opened in 1996, provides housing for the elderly and handicapped. The
Frontier Park Pavilion was donated by the Jaycees in 1985 to house community
events. And countless programs over the years, such as the Junior Miss
competition, the Christmas Shopping Tour, The Jaycee Haunted House, Easter Egg
Hunts, Fourth of July Festivals, Fridays at Frontier, etc., represent the St. Charles Jaycees'
dedication to the St. Charles area.
And tomorrow, the commitment promises to be even stronger. With the help of
younger adults we will continue to improve the community around us.
